Water authority plays down Bendigo supply worries

Coliban Water has rejected claims Bendigo will run out of water.

Bendigo council fears supplies will run dry before a $70 million pipe is built from the Goulburn system to Lake Eppalock by the end of next year.

Coliban chief executive Geoff Michell says even with no rain until winter, there is enough in the storages to last until next September.

He says a recycling plant is expected to be in use by March, and there are other projects to boost supplies.

"We'll have access to Bendigo mining water in around March, there is the potential that we can use that water as part of our drinking water supplies - we're looking at things like reducing evaporation on our storages to conserve a bit more of water over summer and we're also investigating a number of other options," he said.
