Vic Minister warns WA Health about sacked doctor

A doctor fired by two regional Victorian hospitals has been hired to work in a private clinic in Western Australia.

A Victorian Government investigation into the employment of the South African trained doctor found he was clinically incompetent.

Victorian Health Minister Bronwyn Pike has stepped in to warn WA Health authorities about the assessment of the doctor by both the Ballarat Base and Portland hospitals.

They hired and fired him within a matter of months.

A State Government investigation found at no time did the doctor treat patients unsupervised and there were no adverse outcomes from his treatment.

Despite his dismissal, the Medical Practitioners Board issued a certificate of good standing for the doctor before he moved to WA, as no disciplinary action was taken against him.

Ms Pike says it highlights a weakness in the system.
