Tourist drowns after houseboat mishap

A coroner's report is being prepared over the drowning of a man yesterday at Tweed Heads in northern New South Wales.

Police say a 69-year-old English tourist fell overboard from a houseboat on the Tweed River near Boyd's Bay Bridge just after 2:30pm AEST.

He drowned, despite the efforts of a female on board the houseboat to rescue him.

The man's body was recovered by emergency services and Tweed Heads police will prepare a report for the coroner.
