Teens head for Indigenous basketball competition

A group of teenagers from Roebourne, in north-west Western Australia, will travel to Sydney tomorrow to represent their town in Australia's first national Indigenous basketball competition.

The Roebourne Wizards Basketball Team was established in 2003 to give local teenagers an opportunity to get involved in sport and direct them away from antisocial behaviour.

The team has an average age of just 15 and recently competed against adults, winning the district 'A' grade basketball competition.

Assistant coach Troy Eaton says the boys have been working hard and have won a string of events across WA.

"Been travelling around the state over the last year, been to Geraldton, been to Meekatharra, been to Broome, been to Port Hedland. Now we want to have a look over the eastern states," he said.
