Some workers more at risk of infertility: researchers

A research team from Adelaide University has found that certain workers, like farmers and mechanics, are more at risk of being infertile.

The University's Research Centre for Reproductive Health has used a new technique to look at DNA damage in sperm, which is linked to infertility.

Speaking on ABC TV's Stateline program tonight, Dr Michelle Lane says they have found that anyone working with solvents tends to have more DNA damage and therefore more likely to be infertile.

"We have found that there is a tendency for farmers to have high levels of DNA damage and things such as mechanics maybe who are perhaps exposed to high levels of solvents," he said.
