Report finds many disabled Tasmanians living in poverty

An Anglicare report into the finances of Tasmanians with disabilities has found many are living in poverty.

The report found many people are having to cut back on essentials like food and heating to pay for wheelchairs.

Report author, Teresa Hinton, says the disability support pension is only $250 a week and the additional Government services people rely on are not adequate.

"What was very striking was how far short the Government services and subsidies fall in actually meeting the needs of people with disabilities and the depth of people's social isolation," she said.

"They have no disposable income in which to participate socially."
