Regional councils given funding to boost recycling efforts
Councils in south-east New South Wales are moving to increase recycling.
The region's councils have received funding for a plan to reduce waste going to landfill.
The proposal includes organic recycling, minimising commercial waste and educating the community.
Queanbeyan Mayor Frank Pangallo says the councils will save money by joining forces.
"The overall aim is obviously to reduce waste and to handle waste in the most cost-effective manner to educate the community about waste," he said.
"A lot of these things that will be implemented over the next 12 months or two years will certainly provide a good base for the benefits."
