Push on to protect Indigenous heritage

A community-based environmental group in south-west Queensland is working to develop a cultural management plan to ensure Indigenous heritage is preserved and protected.

South-West NRM says it will work with six traditional owner groups in a vast region, including in the Murweh, Paroo and Bulloo shires in south-west Queensland.

Spokesman Dan Ferguson says it is vital Indigenous people are involved in the planning process.

"We see it as vitally important that we get the information from those traditional owners who recognise what is needed for us to invest in better management of cultural heritage ... so it's absolutely necessary that we get the people on the ground to tell us how best to invest our money through the Natural Heritage Trust," he said.
