No air service for remote Indigneous community
A remote health service on the Northern Territory-West Australian border says it is still without an air service to transport medical samples.
The Pintupi Health Service in Kintore is one of the communities affected by the closure of Aboriginal Air Services.
Health Service spokesman Geoff Warne says Chart-Air has been contracted to deliver mail but transporting patients and medical samples is still a problem.
"We're still driving them in, putting them in the back of a vehicle and driving them in," he said.
"A nurse took some in last week and the week before that, we had a charter out that took some back and we've sent some out this morning, we had a charter in.
"These charters are associated with bringing medical staff out.
He says these charters could dry up.
"We're not expecting another charter or anyone from remote health services for quite a while," he said.
The Health Service is hoping to meet with the Office of Central Australia to negotiate future arrangements.
