New practitioners to boost Tas dental system

The Tasmanian Government has lured four more dentists to work in the state.

They are from South Africa and are scheduled to arrive by Easter.

Another two dentists, from the United Kingdom, are to start work in Tasmania this month.

Health Minister Lara Giddings says the Government is also about to call tenders for an $8 million, four-year program to provide non-urgent dental care.

"What we're trying to do is get the general care down but we do need to look at innovative ways to do that and [we are] purchasing or getting the private sector to actually come and we pay them to do the treatments on our patients," she said.
