National Trust backs Burrup heritage report
The National Trust says it is pleased the heritage value of Western Australia's Burrup Peninsula and its ancient rock art is finally being recognised.
The Australian Heritage Council has released details of its assessment of the peninsula, where Woodside Petroleum wants to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) processing plant.
As well as stating that the Burrup Peninsula is of cultural significance, the council suggests the proposed site of Woodside's Pluto project has heritage value.
National Trust spokesman Robin Chapple says he supports the council's report.
"I certainly think the proposals which we're now being asked to comment on by the Federal Minister do seem to be, on the face of it, an exceptionally good outcome," she said.
