Missing Solomons A-G's arrest ordered

A Papua New Guinea court has ordered police to arrest the newly-appointed Solomon Islands Attorney-General, Julian Moti, after he broke his bail conditions over the weekend.

Mr Moti, who is an Australian citizen, was reported missing at the weekend after a judge revoked his bail but he could not be found.

Australian authorities want to extradite Mr Moti to answer allegations he has been involved in the sexual abuse of children.

But he has failed to appear for a court hearing in Port Moresby this morning.

The magistrate has ordered police to arrest Mr Moti and that the extradition proceedings to continue.

PNG authorities say Mr Moti might have fled to the Solomon Islands, which does not have an extradition arrangement with Australia.

The Australian Federal Police claim Mr Moti made a payment to a court magistrate in Vanuatu, who dismissed a child sex offence case involving Mr Moti in 1997.
