Medical board moves to have sex assault doctor struck off

The New South Wales Medical Board is moving to have an Iraqi-trained doctor convicted of drugging and sexually assaulting a patient at Grenfell, in the state's central west, struck off the medical register.

After being found guilty in the District Court in Wagga Wagga last week, Dr Rafid Alramadan blamed his patient and labelled the jury racist.

Charges brought against the doctor last December, relating to the drugging and sexual assault of a patient at his surgery in Grenfell, prompted the medical board to place restrictions on the GP.

That included a requirement that another doctor be present when he saw a female patient.

A board spokesman says Dr Alramadan is likely to be struck off, even if he wins any appeal against his conviction.
