Jail dust concerns 'a stunt'

ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope has rejected the idea the Government is responsible for health problems associated with a dust cloud coming from the Hume jail site.

Margot Sachse, from the Jerrabomberra Residents Group, says north-westerly winds are carrying huge dust clouds from the site into Jerrabomberra and Letchworth, causing respiratory problems for residents.

The group wants the Government to solve the problem but Mr Stanhope says it is a political stunt.

"There is a major campaign, which we all know, by residents of Jerrabomberra and indeed their political representatives against the prison," he said.

"They don't like it, they don't want it to go ahead, but it's going to and it's a fact of life."
