Govt urged to allocate extra Snowy River water

The New South Wales high country's river watchdog says it is disappointed the State Government will not be allocating extra water after it has cleaned up pollution in the Snowy River.

The Natural Resources Department has confirmed that flushes this week to shift sediment that is clogging the river will be included in environmental flows.

The Snowy Hydro Corporation is flooding the waterway to dislodge silt accidentally released from a construction site at the base of the Jindabyne Dam.

Snowy River Alliance chairman John Gallard says he will discuss the matter with the department.

"We believe that the flow was implemented as a result of a silt spill which was caused by the construction company and their supervisors and that also includes the Government, we believe that that really should not be debited against the environmental flows," he said.
