Fuel spill may have broader impact: EPA

The EPA says a 30,000-litre petrol spill at Pearcedale, south of Melbourne, may have broader impacts.

A tanker overturned at the intersection of Dandenong-Hastings and Baxter-Tooradin Roads last night, spilling about 30,000 litres of petrol.

The driver was not seriously injured.

Stuart McConnell, from the Environmental Protection Authority, says it appears the fuel was well-contained and this limited the damage.

"But there will be need for further clean up and of course as with any of these sorts of spills of fuel, there is the potential for broader impacts," he said.

"But in this case it appears as if it's been contained and that will assist in the clean up."
