Beattie says sexuality assignment inappropriate
Queensland Premier Peter Beattie has called for a controversial school assignment to be withdrawn.
It has been reported that 13- and 14-year-olds at a state high school south of Brisbane have been asked to imagine living as a heterosexual in a mainly gay community.
Mr Beattie says the assignment is inappropriate.
"It's not part of the curriculum, so let's get that really clear," he said.
"The studies authority releases suggested assignments and this was one that was picked up by the school.
"The school has now made a determination that they're not going to proceed with the assignment.
"I don't think it's appropriate for a 13-year-old to be doing an assignment like this and I think the authority should withdraw it. They're independent."
